Feel-Good Drake Maye Wedding Story Crumbles Under Scrutiny
A feel-good headline about New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has been sacked for a loss.
Weeks after New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye married longtime girlfriend Ann Michael Hudson in their North Carolina hometown, a story built to warm hearts went viral.
According to 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Scott Zolak, the newlyweds had quietly donated all their wedding gifts — reportedly worth $100,000 — to homeless shelters and children’s charities near Foxborough.
The tale went national, picked up by outlets like FOX News and People, with glowing coverage of the couple’s supposed generosity.
There was just one problem: none of it was true.
On July 17, Zolak’s co-host Marc “Beetle” Bertrand dismantled the story live on air, calling it “totally bogus.” According to Bertrand, the false report had apparently originated from a TikTok video stitched together using AI-generated content. Clues were glaring — including a reference to Maye’s wife as “Emily Carter,” not her actual name, Ann Michael Hudson.
Bertrand took it a step further, pointing out that a nearly identical story had circulated online about Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love. That version also included the same exact donation value and number of gifts: 250 items totaling $100,000.
“It didn’t happen,” Bertrand said flatly. “The story is bogus.”
For Maye, the fake narrative adds an early brush with the bizarre side of NFL fame. He and Hudson never issued a public statement about the supposed donations and there is no indication they were ever involved with the hoax.
The entire episode seems to be the result of AI fabrication, social media virality, and a little too much wishful thinking from a gullible sports talk radio host.
A fairytale wedding? Yes. A six-figure donation to Foxborough shelters? Not even close.
