Queen’s Park under-19s win penultimate friendly

0 0

GOALS from Darryl Carrick, Leo Clark and Liam McLeish gave Queen’s Park under-19s a 3-1 win over Rutherglen Glencairn on Thursday evening.

Coach Charley King will take the squad to Oriam to face Hearts of Midlothian next week before the league action begins with a trip to Dundee on July 29.

However a win on the last home friendly of the pre-season was a welcome result for the 19s who have also faced Hamilton and Kilsyth Rangers as part of their summer schedule.

He said: “We showed some good intensity against an experienced mens’ team – which included some former Queen’s Park players too.

“The boys played really well on the night.

“We thank Rutherglen for the game, and they were very complimentary about how we played.”

Despite being predominantly under-19s the team included a spread of ages from 16-year-old Cole Burke through to 20-year-old striker Liam McLeish – who found the net.

Scotland schoolboy cap Ollie Fisher also made his debut in defence for the young Spiders after signing from Morton earlier in the day.

gave the home side the lead, heading the opener from a corner and Leo Clark followed up his player of the tournament performance in Oban a fortnight ago with a goal much closer to home.

also rounded off a good team move to complete the scoring, although the West of Scotland league side pulled one back late on in the second half through Anthony Maguire.

Josiah Sowa was a second half substitute
