“Set to leave Chelsea” – Journalist claims Saudi clubs have made approaches for Blues star
Chelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist is reportedly the subject of transfer interest from clubs in the Championship and the Saudi Pro League.
The 21-year-old, who is accomplished as a centre-back or a right-back, has been in Chelsea’s academy since 2014, though he’s not played much senior first-team football for the Blues.
Gilchrist has just 17 appearances for Chelsea in total, and spent last season on loan in the Championship with Sheffield United.
It now seems he could be heading back to English football’s second tier, though there is also said to be interest from Saudi Arabia, according to journalist Ben Jacobs in the X post below…

Alfie Gilchrist now looks set to leave Chelsea
We’ve seen a number of top young talents coming through Chelsea’s academy in recent times, but it seems Gilchrist isn’t quite going to make it at Stamford Bridge.
The young Englishman could still have a bright future in the game, but Jacobs states that that won’t be at Chelsea.
It will be interesting to see if Gilchrist chooses the Championship or a Saudi club for the next step in his development.
What would be the best move for Gilchrist’s career?
Gilchrist could land himself a huge contract and get to play alongside some big names in a growing league if he makes the move to Saudi Arabia.
At the same time, though, it might be a little while yet before football outside of Europe is taken quite as seriously, so the Championship might end up being the better stepping stone towards one day getting back to the Premier League.
Gilchrist needs to ensure he’s playing regularly at his next club, and he’ll sure to be keen to prove CFC wrong to let him go.
