Ikechi Eze interview – “Promotion is definitely the aim”
DFC’s latest recruit Ikechi Eze spoke to Myles Thornton about his arrival at Princes Park, his aims for the season, and what Darts supporters can expect from the midfielder during the 2025/26 season.
Ikechi Eze has his eyes set firmly on promotion after joining Ady’s squad last week.
A midfielder, who played for Potters Bar Town last season, witnessed the Dover play-off loss first hand.
Now, he is determined to help the team go one better.
He said: “I was at the play off final as I know a few of the team already. Dartford will probably want to go up automatically this time, but promotion is definitely the aim for me and the squad.”
Ikechi started his career with Hampton & Richmond Borough, before moving to Fisher Athletic. He later had spells in Scotland with Stranraer and Clydebank.
He signed for National League South side Aveley in November 2023, but went on to Potters Bar Town last season, playing fourteen times, with two goals.
Ikechi, 28, feels he has his best years in front of him as he looks forward to his latest challenge.
He continued: “My best position is CDM! I consider myself a holding midfielder.
“Darts supporters can expect someone who’s going to put as much as they can into their craft. Box-to-box; breaking up play; getting it forward – and hopefully a lot of pleasurable moments for myself and the team.”
So, what bought the midfielder to Princes Park?
He said: “I knew a few players here and that was one of the reasons for joining. I thought knowing some of the players would be extra motivation for me coming in and wanting to do well.”
Ikechi’s younger brother Eberechi has been setting the Premier League alight for many years with Crystal Palace, with the two players often going to each other’s matches.
While he isn’t one to give too much away, is Princes Park likely to have a Premier League player as a new supporter soon?
He added cryptically: “Maybe he was there already, but he was in disguise so no one knew!”
