Tottenham transfer budget could increase ‘substantially’ amid huge ENIC twist
A new report has shed light on the kind of budget that Thomas Frank will have at Tottenham to rebuild the squad this summer as the Lilywhites embark on a new era under the Dane.
Ahead of the Europa League final, it was widely reported that Tottenham have to sell before they can buy this summer, with the club’s high transfer debt preventing them from being able to flex their financial muscle.
However, winning the Europa League has changed the North London club’s fortunes, with Tottenham’s coffers expected to be boosted by around £180m, owing to their participation in next season’s Champions League.
That will certainly help Frank this summer as he oversees a rebuild of the squad and a new report has now suggested that one more factor could play into the Dane’s hands.
ENIC are now taking a greater interest in Tottenham
BBC Sport have now claimed that being back in Europe’s premier club tournament will ensure that Frank will have a ‘substantial budget’ to utilise in the transfer market.
Interestingly, the outlet suggests that there is also a growing sense at N17 that owners, the ENIC Group, are taking ‘a greater interest’ in Tottenham Hotspur’s operations.
It is claimed that this move could potentially impact the North London club’s expenditure in the summer.
ENIC have invested just £122.1m into Tottenham since buying the club in 2001, which amounts to just £5.3m per season, and Spurs fans will be hoping that is about to change.
What reports indicate about ENIC’s plans this summer
Last week, The Telegraph reported that the summer shake-up at Tottenham at board level could be a prelude to funds being pumped into the club by ENIC.
The outlet claimed that ENIC are keen to retain control of Spurs, but also raised the possibility that funds can come in terms of external investment.
Tottenham can spend £273m this summer without falling foul of PSR regulations, thus meaning that the Lilywhites could blow teams out of the water this summer should they receive an injection of funds.
