Aaron Judge Raves About Ex-Yankees Teammate Amid His Success With Red Sox

The Yankees’ logjam at catcher ended up being much to the benefit of the Boston Red Sox.

With the Yankees awash with intriguing catching prospects last year, they opted to start trading off some of their depth, including a December move that sent Carlos Narváez to the Red Sox.

To that point Narváez had only played in six big league games, all in 2024. But it didn’t take long for him to make an impact with the Red Sox, and he has since taken over as Boston’s top option behind the dish.

His has an .820 OPS through 50 games, and hit a three-run go-ahead homer off Fernando Cruz in the sixth inning Sunday night to help guide the Red Sox to one of their biggest wins of the season.

Narváez’ surge is not coming as much of a surprise to one of the biggest stars of the game, his former teammate Aaron Judge.

“Narvy is a hard worker, a great teammate, one of the best we ever had over here,” Judge said, via MLB.com’s Ian Browne. “I was sad to see him go, but excited for the opportunity he’s getting right now. He’s really doing his thing over there, swinging it well. He had a short time coming up with us for a little bit and the stuff I saw in spring training and stuff I heard about, everybody loved him. He outworked everybody in this room. So it doesn’t surprise me he’s having the success he is this year.”

Narváez isn’t the only former Yankees catching prospect finding success after getting moved. Agustín Ramírez is having a solid season in Miami after getting sent to the Marlins in the Jazz Chisholm trade last season.

It’s not every day that the Red Sox and Yankees swing deals with each other — though it is becoming increasingly more common — but such deals have netted the Red Sox contributors like Narváez and Garrett Whitlock.
