Yankees Infielder Leaves Field In Ambulance After Scary Injury

The Yankees won their second straight game Monday night, but New York wasn’t riding high after kicking off its series in Seattle with a victory.

The Bronx Bombers were dealt a tough blow on the final run they scored in their 11-5 triumph over the Mariners. Oswaldo Cabrera awkwardly stumbled across home plate on an Aaron Judge sacrifice fly and immediately went down writhing in pain. The 26-year-old was on the ground for several minutes before he was placed on a stretcher and left T-Mobile Park in an ambulance.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone informed reporters that Cabrera had a brace placed on his left ankle before he was loaded onto the ambulance.

“I think everyone understands it was a pretty serious situation,” Boone told the media, per ESPN. “So, just praying for our guy tonight and hoping for the best. Trust that he’s in good hands as he goes through the night here.”

Cabrera signed with the Yankees as a free agent when he was 16 years old. The Venezuela native climbed through New York’s farm system in the years that followed and made his big league debut in pinstripes in August 2022. Cabrera became very valuable to Aaron Boone and company largely due to his versatility, as he played every position on the field besides catcher over his first two full MLB seasons.

As of early Tuesday afternoon, New York hadn’t issued an official update on Cabrera’s status.
