'I think..': Veteran midfielder delivers verdict on £29m Man United signing
Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has praised new signing Patrick Dorgu.
The 20-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Lecce last month in a deal worth £29 million.
Eriksen is confident that Dorgu has what it takes to thrive in United’s colors.
He said (via ManUtd.com): “I think you’ve seen already what he can bring.
“He’s an athletic full-back and a good player on the ball that likes to go forward. And yeah, he’s a very nice guy. There’s not many Danish guys who aren’t nice guys!
“I think he fits in well. He has to get used to everything in the Prem and at this club, but he’s in good hands and I think he’ll do really well.”
Dorgu looks to be a promising talent
United head coach Ruben Amorim surprised everyone by starting Dorgu in the right wing-back position in his debut game for the new club.
The young full-back has since returned to his preferred left wing-back role in his next two outings, looking far more comfortable and influential.
Despite United’s loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Dorgu stood out as one of the brighter performers and followed it up with another impressive display in the thrilling 2-2 draw against Everton.
In the two Premier League games, he has won 72% of his duels and has made six tackles.
The unavailability of a highly-skilled left-back has long been a thorn in the side of both Amorim and his predecessor Erik ten Hag.
Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia forced Diogo Dalot to operate in that role.
The Portuguese ace has failed to thrive as a left wing-back under Amorim.
He is too weak in defence and his lack of creative spark when pushing forward negatively affects United’s attack.
Dorgu is naturally an attacking player by trade and could play a pivotal role in the 3-4-2-1 formation.
