Man United one step away from completing defensive overhaul, priority for next year set - view

0 2

Manchester United have shown that they are not messing around under the new leadership of INEOS.

The Red Devils have tried to pull out all the stops to shore up their defence this summer.

The arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt bring much more quality and depth to the heart of the defence.

Noussair Mazraoui, who followed De Ligt’s path to reunite with Erik ten Hag, has already proven his worth by starting both Premier League games this season.

With Diogo Dalot also in the squad, the right-back spot is well covered with two top-notch players.

However, the left-back position still needs strengthening. While Dalot can fill in as a left-back, Ten Hag prefers a specialist.

Luke Shaw is an exceptional full-back, but injuries have kept him sidelined more often than not.

The United manager has acknowledged Shaw’s world-class ability, but persistent injury issues raise concerns about his availability for the entire season.

He missed 34 games last campaign due to muscle-related setbacks.

His deputy, Tyrell Malacia, is a fine talent but it has been over a year since he last played.

He is currently in the recovery phase but the club have not disclosed any return date.

United must hunt an elite left-back next summer who can elevate the team to new heights.

A new full-back would not only provide much-needed stability but also bring an attacking flair to complement United’s ambitious style of play.

INEOS should stick to their strategy of signing a top-class player around the age of 25. This can help them enjoy the best years of full-back and have the hope of good resale value.

With the centre-back and right-back positions covered, securing a new and exceptional left-back next year will complete the defensive overhaul.
