Man Utd star could leave permanently next wk, Red Devils talking about selling him, he played v Fulham & Brighton - report

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro could still leave the club this summer despite the closure of the 2024 European transfer window, according to journalist Miguel Delaney.

Delaney claimed in his ‘Reading the Game’ newsletter on Friday that the Red Devils have been talking about selling the Brazilian, and he still has interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

With the transfer window in Saudi Arabia still open for another week, Casemiro could still depart Man United, joining Scott McTominay and Jadon Sancho as high-profile departures from the club this summer.

The 32-year-old earns £350,00 per week, more than any Red Devils player. While he has played in both of their opening two Premier League games of 2024-25 against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion, getting his wages off their bill appeals to Man United.

They will be saving around £18 million this season if they can manage to get him out next week, and letting Jadon Sancho leave for Chelsea will also come in handy financially for the club.

Man United have been constrained this summer by previous contracts and how they have been pushed up against the limits of Profit and Sustainability Rules.

They decided to sell McTominay to Napoli as a result despite already releasing high earners Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane.

While the chances of seeing Casemiro move on appear slim, the arrival of Uruguay international midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain means they could be open to letting him leave.

The former Real Madrid star was far from impressive last season after a decent 2022-23 campaign.

However, he has shown significant improvement and a return to top form since pre-season, which could see Erik ten Hag decide he wants to hold on to him.
