Europa League draw: Man Utd’s eight opponents confirmed

0 2

Manchester United have been drawn against their eight opponents for the league phase of the 2024/25 Europa League.

The new format of the Europa League will include a 36-team league table. United will face two teams from Pot 1, Pot 2, Pot 3 and Pot 4 respectively.

UEFA have now confirmed that the Red Devils will take on Porto, Fenerbahce, Viktoria Plzen and FCSB away from home.

Meanwhile, United will welcome Rangers, PAOK, Bodo/Glimt and FC Twente to Old Trafford.

The exact dates for the fixtures will be released by UEFA tomorrow.

With the new format, the Red Devils will play eight games in the league phase with the schedule extending into January.

Here is the schedule:

Matchday 1: September 25-26
Matchday 2: October 3
Matchday 3: October 24
Matchday 4: November 7
Matchday 5: November 28
Matchday 6: December 12
Matchday 7: January 23 (2025)
Matchday 8: January 30 (2025)

United have been handed a favourable draw on paper especially at home. They face potentially tricky ties on the road against Porto and Fenerbahce.

The latter of those matches will see the club reunited with manager Jose Mourinho and midfielder Fred. It promises to be an entertaining affair.

The Red Devils should be favourites to finish in the top eight to directly progress to the round of 16, but the club can’t afford to be complacent.

They had a relatively easy Champions League group last season, but finished fourth behind Bayern Munich, Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

The teams finishing ninth to 24th in the standings will have an extra knockout play-off round in February. United will be aiming to avoid such a situation.
