Dharmesh Sheth: Man Utd now want to sign ‘clinical’ Chelsea attacker (not Sterling) before 11pm deadline

Manchester United are keen on completing a deal for Chelsea attacking midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka ahead of the transfer deadline tonight, according to Sky Sports News journalist Dharmesh Sheth.

A move for the clinical 20-year-old will not involve Jadon Sancho, as the proposed move of the Red Devils forward to Chelsea is a standalone deal.

Man United have explored a possible move for Chukwuemeka in a separate deal, with the former Aston Villa forward one of a number of players that could leave the Stamford Bridge club before the deadline.

Chukwuemeka wants regular football and has also been linked with a loan move to West Ham United in his search for more playing chances, but joining Man United could be more appealing.

The Red Devils are not short of options in attack, with Amad, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Marcus Rashford all available to manager Erik ten Hag.

However, the 6ft 2in Chukwuemeka can also play as a centre midfielder, in defensive midfield, behind the striker and as a striker, and Man United could do with his versatility and talents within their ranks.

The England youth international has only weighed in with two goals and one assist in 27 games for the Blues since joining them in the summer of 2022, but he has the potential to become one of the best attackers in the Premier League given his style of play and skills.

Man United sporting director Dan Ashworth suggested earlier today that the Red Devils could still get some transfer deals done before the 11 pm deadline tonight, and talks with Chelsea for Chukwuemeka appear to be ongoing.

They have signed Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee and defensive trio Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui so far this summer, and Manuel Ugarte is expected to be announced today, but it appears the Old Trafford club are far from done, and one or two late additions could be on the cards.
