TEN-MAN BAY LOSE LEAGUE OPENER

0 9

THE Seagulls suffered a nightmare start to the new JD Cymru North campaign, losing 4-0 at home to Bangor 1876 after having Lewis Sirrell sent off in the first half for a two footed tackle and skipper Sam Hart going off injured early in the second half..

In front of a huge crowd of 1,236, Colwyn Bay started the game well with Bangor keeper Carl Jones saving from Craig Lindfield and Tommy Creamer, while Gwion Daffyd fired a shot on the turn just wide of the post.

Bangor 1876, however, took the lead on 24 minutes with Corrig McGonigle scoring from close range against the run of play.

Bay were unlucky not to equalise when Jay Owen’s effort rebounded off a post, but Sirrell’s red card on 37 minutes was a big turning point and Bangor quickly doubled their lead with a McGonigle free kick to give them a 2-0 lead at half-time, after Sam Hart had fired wide from a Bay free kick for a foul on Tommy Creamer.

McGonigle came close to completing a hat-trick early in the second half before Tom Clarke added Bangor’s third goal on 63 minutes, with Mason Blackwell-Jones getting the fourth ten minutes from the end after a strong run into the area.

Colwyn Bay had chances, but Gwion Dafydd fired over the bar from the edge of area and Tommy Creamer had a shot comfortably gathered by the keeper.

Joel Giblin, who came on for injured Sam Hart, forced a corner after one good run into the box, but overall it was a disappointing night with Bangor taking their chances and Bay failing to take theirs.

COLWYN BAY: Rhys Williams, Joe Williams, Sam Hart (Joel Giblin 53), Cai Owen, Lewis Sirrell, Sol Forde, Jay Owen, Gwion Dafydd, Craig Lindfield (Tom Weir 86), Rhys Nash, Tom Creamer (Lloyd Marsh-Hughes 87). Unused subs: Max McGoona, Jacob Barratt, Tom Atewell.

Attendance: 1,236
