Barcelona Not Chasing Newcastle United Star

 

Guimaraes, 25, was an imposing figure in Newcastle’s midfield this term during the Magpies’ splendid league campaign.

 

He played in 32 Premier League matches for the St. James’ Park outfit this season and was booked seven times, besides bagging four goals and five assists.

 

 

His commanding presence on the pitch has seen some big guns fascinated by him, and Liverpool, Chelsea and Barcelona have been credited with the interest in the midfield asset.

 

However, according to Spanish daily Catalan daily Sport, Barcelona are not planning to try to sign the Brazil international, amid Newcastle insisting that the midfielder is not for sale.

 

 

It was suggested earlier this month that Eddie Howe’s side are thinking of giving Guimaraes a lucrative package to tie him to St. James’ Park beyond the summer.

 

And they are hoping to make a quick breakthrough in negotiations with their stand-out performer.

 

 

Now, it remains to be seen how the Magpies can adjust their budgetary allocation in order to see their plans for Guimaraes materialise.
