Manager gives positive update after Spurs man picked up injury last week out on loan

Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe admitted that he was left unimpressed with the club’s fitness department after Troy Parrott suffered another niggling groin injury, just a couple of weeks after returning from his long-term injury layoff.

Parrott picked up a knee injury at the start of October and subsequently missed 13 matches across all competitions.

After months of rehabilitation, the on-loan Tottenham man finally returned to action in Preston’s 4-0 loss against Norwich two weeks ago after replacing Daniel Johnson in the 72nd minute of the encounter.

The 20-year-old then got a few more minutes off the bench in the later stages of the club’s 2-1 win away at Birmingham City but he was cup-tied for the FA Cup fourth-round clash against Tottenham last week.

Parrott was not part of Preston’s matchday squad for their 2-1 loss at home against Bristol City on Saturday, with Football.London revealing that the striker was ruled out with a groin problem.

Lowe seemed to hint that the injury was not serious but he did remark that he demanded some answers from the medical department about the striker’s workload.

The Preston boss is quoted as saying: “They both (Parrott and Ben Whiteman) had a little bit of a niggle from Thursday, Friday which I’m disappointed about because I feel Troy has been out for a while and we need to manage him a bit better.

“So I’ve had a word with the fitness department and the physio department.

“There are a couple of things in there that we’ve had to speak about, me, the fitness coach and the physios, how we can prevent it and help them a little better. I don’t want to be losing any players on Thursdays and Fridays, definitely not.

“Ben Whiteman will probably train Monday, Tuesday and Troy will probably train on Thursday. With Troy, he’s been champing at the bit to get back. He’s got a little niggly groin injury and Whiteman is the same.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would not be too impressed with Preston if Parrott had been rushed back too quickly and his workload had not been managed appropriately. However, it does not sound like the injury is serious and the Championship club might just be taking extra precaution with the 20-year-old.
