Report: Tottenham interested in 24-year-old but ‘not willing to go crazy’

0 29

La Repubblica have reported that while Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Weston McKennie, the North London club are not willing to break the bank for the Juventus star in January.

The speculation linking McKennie with a move to Spurs in January has intensified over recent weeks, with multiple outlets backing the Premier League club to make a move for the American.

Calciomercato claimed last week that Antonio Conte’s men are keen on landing the 24-year-old, with the Serie A giants allegedly valuing the USA international at around €25m- €30m (£21.5m-£26m).

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs took to Twitter over the weekend to claim that Spurs are ‘seriously considering’ the former Schalke man and that there is ‘real substance’ to the speculation.

La Repubblica have now reiterated Tottenham’s interest in McKennie but they state that the Lilywhites are ‘not willing to go crazy’ for the attacking midfielder.

It is also explained that the Juve star’s future might depend on what happens with Adrien Rabiot in January, with the 27-year-old’s current contract at the Allianz Arena running out next summer (Transfermarkt).

La Repubblica suggest that if the Frenchman does not sign a new deal, the Bianconeri might decide to cash in on him in January, which could mean that McKennie stays put in Turin.

To make matters interesting, Calciomercato reported last week that Spurs are one of the clubs monitoring Rabiot.

Spurs Web Opinion

Between McKennie and Rabiot, there is no doubt that Conte would prefer the former as Spurs need a number eight rather than another number six. We know that Paratici usually identifies multiple targets for each position and so, the North Londoners might their attentions elsewhere if Juve demand a fee in excess of £25m for McKennie.
