Report: Liverpool eyeing January move for rumoured Spurs midfield target

According to a report from Corriere dello Sport (29/11/22 via SportWitness), Liverpool could make a move for rumoured Tottenham target Sofyan Amrabat in January. 

Amrabat has developed impressively since his switch to Florence back in 2020 and the midfielder was solid and consistent in the middle of the park for Vincenzo Italiano’s side in the first part of this season.

The 26-year-old has been a long-term target for Spurs, having been heavily linked with a move to the North London club in January of this year, with Fabrizio Romano even stating at the time that Antonio Conte’s men were in ‘advanced talks’ to sign the player.

However, Spurs were unable to conclude a deal for the former Club Brugge star, with Fiorentina director Daniele Prade revealing after the window slammed shut that the midfielder was keen to remain at the Artemio Franchi Stadium (TuttoMercatoWeb). 

Tottenham could reignite their interest in Amarabat 12 months later, with La Repubblica (28/11/22 via Viola News) claiming this week that the Lilywhites could make a second move for the Moroccan international when the transfer window opens in January.

However, if Corriere‘s latest update is to be believed, Spurs could face competition from Liverpool for the Fiorentina star.

The report alleges that Amrabat’s performances in Morocco’s 0-0 draw against Croatia and their 2-0 win over Belgium at the World Cup, have caught the attention of Jurgen Klopp’s men, who are looking to reinforce their midfield in January.

I would be extremely surprised if Tottenham tried to sign another defensive midfielder in January as Conte already has four good options at his disposal in the form of Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Bissouma and Skipp. Signing a number 8 like Weston McKennie or Ruslan Malinovskyi will likely be the priority for the Italian.
