'Taken the money out': Former Manchester United director hits out at the Glazers

0 2

Former Manchester United director Greg Dyke has said that fans will be pleased to see the back of the Glazers amid their lack of sufficient investment into the club.

The Glazer family recently confirmed that they are exploring strategic alternatives ahead of the New Year which include new investment as well as a possible sale.

The club’s faithful have responded positively to the statement and speaking to Sky News, Dyke has said that the fans will be pleased to see the back of the owners.

The former United director added that the Glazers have taken money out of the club which is visible by the lack of investment into Old Trafford and training facilities.

He said: “All Man Utd will be pleased to see the back of the Glazers.”

“There is no doubt the money has not been invested. Old Trafford used to be a ground ahead of its time, it’s no longer like that.

“The training ground is no longer like that, the world catches up and you have to spend capital and they haven’t spent it, they’ve taken the money out.”

United fans are desperate to see the Glazers leave

The Glazers spent £220 million on new signings during the summer transfer window, but the spending spree was largely triggered by a poor start to the campaign.

The club signed just three players for £70m when the season began. Back-to-back defeats as well as fan protests urged the owners to make a huge outlay in the end.

Casemiro and Antony were brought in before the transfer deadline, but things could have been entirely different, had the club made a strong start to their season.

Football director John Murtough went on to say that the summer activity was a one-off and the club don’t expect a similar level of spending in future windows.

This clearly suggests that the budget could be limited hereon. With a club of United’s stature, they clearly should be spending huge sums on players every campaign.

Meanwhile, Old Trafford and the training facilities need to be renovated soon. There has been no upgrade whatsoever, right from the first-team squad’s swimming pool.

This obviously requires huge investment. The costs for the stadium upgrade alone could mount to £200 million. United need a takeover to happen as soon as possible.
