Journalist explains what kind of club Spurs will choose for Djed Spence loan

0 20

Dean Jones has reported that Tottenham are open to letting Djed Spence leave the club on loan in the January transfer window.

Spence was signed from Middlesbrough in the summer after impressing for Nottingham Forest in what was a promotion-winning campaign last season. However, the 22-year-old has struggled for minutes in North London under Antonio Conte.

The right-wing-back is still yet to start a game for Tottenham, and has been reduced to three cameo appearances off the bench in the Premier League, totalling just three minutes. However, the youngster did impress in his 25-minute run-out against Forest in the Carabao Cup this month (TransferMarkt).

Jones told GiveMeSport that while Tottenham are open to letting Spence leave on loan, it has to be the right club. Spurs will reportedly look for a club that play a similar system to Conte in North London and can get Spence up to speed quickly in the second half of the season.

He said: “They’re open to letting him go, but it needs to be to a club that can quickly get him up to the levels to play in the same sort of system that is going to help him at Spurs, so it’s not as simple as just finding him a loan deal.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Jones is bang on here. Any loan has to be to a club that play with a back three and will give Spence regular minutes. Perhaps a Nottingham Forest return or a move to someone like Brighton would suit him down to the ground.
