Sky Sports journalist explains what Conte’s ‘priority’ position will be in January

0 9

Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge has predicted that Tottenham and Antonio Conte will see central defence as the main priority in the January transfer window.

Despite plenty of big names being linked in the summer, Spurs eventually settled on the signing of Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan from Barcelona, rather than splashing the cash.

Cristian Romero has also been in and out of the starting XI due to injuries in the first half of the season and Tottenham have struggled to earn consistent clean sheets across all competitions.

With the Premier League currently on break for another month, Antonio Conte will likely have half an eye on the January transfer window as he looks to improve the quality of his squad.

Michael Bridge believes that central defence will be the priority focus of the window for Conte and Fabio Paratici, but the pair will look to bring two or three new faces in across January.

He told GiveMeSport: “110%, at least one [centre-back]. I think Tottenham, in an ideal world, would look to maybe get two or three players in.

“One would be a centre-half as the main priority. They’re conceding poor goals and making sloppy mistakes. Then a right wing-back because Emerson Royal, it’s not worked out. He’s not having Matt Doherty and he’s not having Djed Spence either.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I would agree with Michael that centre-back should be the top focus, then right-wing-back, then I would also look to sign an attacking/creative reinforcement to strengthen Spurs at the other end of the pitch.
