Report reveals how many points Tottenham would have without VAR

0 2

ESPN have crunched the numbers and revealed what the Premier League table would look like if VAR had not been in place this season.

Tottenham are unbeaten in their first seven games of the season, having won five and drawn two – with their two draws coming away at West Ham United and Chelsea.

The Lilywhites head into the all-important North London derby just one point behind league leaders Arsenal and tied on points with Manchester City.

According to ESPN, if the decisions made by the intervention of VAR were removed, Spurs would have accumulated 19 points from their first seven games.

It is revealed that Antonio Conte’s men would be sitting in second place behind Arsenal, who would have a perfect record in their first seven matches of the season.

ESPN reveal that Manchester City would be on the same number of points as they have now while Manchester United and Liverpool would find themselves in 9th and 10th respectively.

Here’s how the table would look without VAR, according to ESPN:

These types of claims make no sense as there is no guarantee how results will turn out if certain refereeing decisions were not made.

For example, even if Arsenal did not have a goal ruled out in their clash at Old Trafford through VAR, United could still have won the game in the second half.

Teams obviously approach matches slightly differently based on whether they are winning or losing, and so, one cannot read too much into these calculations.
