Dele Alli opens up on time at Spurs and desire to return to England

0 3

Dele Alli has revealed that he intends to prove himself at Besiktas and return to England, even adding that he has dreams to play for his country again one day.

Dele made the move to Spurs from MK Dons for just £5m back in 2015 (BBC) and went on to appear 269 times for the Lilywhites across all competitions, scoring 67 and assisting 61 (TransferMarkt).

The midfielder was a key part of the Tottenham team that pushed for Premier League titles under Mauricio Pochettino and played in the 2019 Champions League Final for Spurs.

However, towards the end of Pochettino’s reign, Dele’s form started to fade, and he struggled to prove himself consistently under Mourinho, Nuno, and Conte.

During the Tottenham Hotspur: All or Nothing documentary, Dele featured in that infamous chat with Jose Mourinho, who warned him what would happen if he took his eye off the ball.

Speaking about that meeting, Dele recently told Turkish Media (via EuroFoot): “My meeting with Mourinho was private, but when it was broadcasted in the documentary, everyone watched it.

“It was a good meeting. It was an interview where he wanted to give me motivation and said what he wanted from me. I can say that Valerien Ismael [Bestikas manager] is similar in terms of motivation.”

Dele has played 37 times for England, including appearances at a World Cup and European Championship, scoring three and assisting seven times (TransferMarkt).

On his dreams for the future, Dele said: “I played in very big games in England. The derby here is a little different. Everyone asks me about the match at the hotel and everywhere I go. It feels so exciting to be a part of it.

“When you are a young player in the Premier League, expectations can be low and when you score goals and start playing well, you naturally stand out. After going through a few difficult years, I wanted a new adventure unless I was playing.

“Everyone wants to play for the national team, it is the dream of every player. I definitely want to go back. I want to show myself here and come back.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I would absolutely love to see Dele Alli return to England and rediscover his best form. He was such an enjoyable player to watch at his peak and, unfortunately, he has now become a prime example of hos difficult it is to get going again after taking your eye off the ball.
