Man United make club record attacker bid but it’s £181m short of release clause - report

0 0

Manchester United have allegedly made a club record bid for talented Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix.

That’s according to a report from Spanish publication Marca who claim that Manchester United’s €135 million (£114 million) offer for the 22-year-old star has been rejected by Atleti.

Erik ten Hag clearly now realises the need for two or three world-class reinforcements at Old Trafford. The United boss needs to sign a top-class right-back, an elite central midfielder and a supremely talented and versatile attacker.

The clock is ticking down and the Dutchman needs to act fast, with only two weeks remaining before the transfer window slams shut. And it seems as though Ten Hag made a move that, had it been successful, would have sent shockwaves throughout the game…

Manchester United made Joao Felix bid

Marca reckon that the Red Devils have lodged a monster €135 million (£114 million) offer for the Portuguese star. That is £25 million more than club paid for Paul Pogba six years ago (Eurosport).

Atletico Madrid signed Felix from Benfica for a club record £113 million back in 2019 (Sky Sports). And the Spanish side inserted a €350 million (£295 million) release clause into the talented attacker’s contract (Marca).

The 22-capped Portugal international has bagged 29 goals and 18 assists in 112 games for Atleti. He hasn’t quite reached the heights that were expected of him when he moved to the Spanish capital from Benfica.

He’s still very young though and is a truly exceptional talent. Felix possesses unbelievable technical ability and the way he runs at speed with the ball is a joy to watch. His brilliant tight control of the ball in congested areas means that he always provides a great outlet for his teammates.

Joao Felix is a world-class player and would obviously be a very exciting signing for Manchester United.

The problem is that Atletico Madrid clearly don’t want to sell him. So Ten Hag will have to move on to alternative options…and fast.
