Report: PL ‘big six’ club hold talks with agent of Spurs-linked Josko Gvardiol

0 5

The Daily Mail have revealed that Chelsea have now held talks with the agent of RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol, who is also on Tottenham’s radar.

Earlier this summer, reports indicated that Gvardiol was one of Tottenham’s top targets for the left centre-back role (Football.London) but Antonio Conte’s men eventually ended up snapping up Clement Lenglet on a season-long loan deal instead.

The Athletic subsequently revealed that while the Croat was at the top of Spurs’ wishlist, the North London club were put off by Leipzig’s excessive asking price for the 20-year-old.

SportBild’s Christian Falk revealed earlier this month that Leipzig are trying to tie Gvardiol down to a new contract to ward off interest from Premier League clubs.

The Mail have now explained that Chelsea are keen for reinforcements in central defence before the transfer window closes.

Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana is said to be the Blues’ top target but Thomas Tuchel’s men have allegedly had two bids of £60m and £65m rejected by the Foxes for the defender.

The report adds that Chelsea are eyeing Gvardiol as a potential alternative and have already spoken to the centre-back’s representative Marjan Sisic.

The Mail also add that the Leipzig star has attracted interest from both Spurs and Manchester City during this transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Spurs would have signed Lenglet this summer if they felt either Gvardiol or Bastoni were gettable (at a reasonable price). In fact, I fully expect the North London club to reignite their interest in the Croat and/or the Italian next summer when Lenglet’s loan move concludes.
