Report claims there is ‘more confidence’ at Spurs that Kane will sign new contract

0 0

The Athletic have claimed there is ‘more confidence’ at Tottenham ‘than there has been for some time’ that Harry Kane will sign a new contract.

Kane has just two years left to run on his current deal at Spurs (Transfermarkt), and there has been some speculation this summer linking him with a potential move to Bayern Munich (Kicker).

Alasdair Gold revealed two weeks ago that Tottenham have no intention of letting their talisman leave and the club plan on opening talks with him regarding a new deal soon.

Meanwhile, Antonio Conte has remarked that the 29-year-old is “really happy” and “totally involved” in the club’s project (Football London).

The Athletic have now claimed that Kane turned down a big long-term contract last summer after his move to Manchester City collapsed.

The report states the deal would have taken the England captain’s salary to ‘another level entirely’ but the striker decided not to sign it in order to have leverage over his future.

However, it is explained that Kane has now fully bought into Conte’s project and is ‘happier at Tottenham than he has been for years’.

The Athletic add that the Spurs hierarchy are now more confident than they have been for a while that the striker will put pen to paper on a new deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think one of the main reasons that Daniel Levy decided to appoint Antonio Conte and ceded to the Italian’s demands, is because the Spurs chairman would have realised that it was the only way to get Kane to commit his future to the club.

The club were at a clear crossroads last season under Nuno and there was a real risk of a massive slide down the table if Kane had departed. That left the Spurs hierarchy with little choice but to take risks and is probably behind ENIC’s decision to pump £150m into the club.

Kane seems to have bought into Conte’s project as much as any other player in the squad and I fully expect the 28-year-old to sign a new contract before the World Cup as long as our results do not fall off a cliff.
