Team News: Conte reveals when Skipp will be back and fresh injury to new signing

0 5

Antonio Conte has provided a team news update to journalists who have attended Tottenham Hotspur’s pre-Chelsea press conference from Hotspur Way this afternoon ahead of the first London derby of the new Premier League campaign.

Tottenham make the short trip to Stamford Bridge on the back of a 4-1 win against Southampton on Saturday, while Thomas Tuchel’s side had to rely on a Jorginho penalty to secure a victory at Everton.

Stamford Bridge has not been a pleasant place for Tottenham to visit in recent years, having lost there twice last season in the Premier League and Carabao Cup which left the Italian admitting there was a big gap in quality between the two teams (Guardian).

Such is the protocol, the media are informed of the availability of the Spurs squad ahead of the clash against the Blues.

Midfielder Oliver Skipp is still sidelined as a result of a freak foot injury he sustained in training during pre-season. However, Conte reported that the midfielder should return in the next couple of weeks.

Conte has also revealed that Clement Lenglet is unlikely to be available for the London derby as he picked up a ‘little problem’. The Spurs boss is unwilling to risk the defender and cause a greater problem.

Conte said (Football London): “About injuries, a little problem with Clement Lenglet. I don’t think he’s available for the game against Chelsea. He had a little problem. Skipp, I think a couple of weeks.

“[With Lenglet] a little problem of fatigue. He’s a bit tired in his abductor, in the muscle. Nothing serious but only precaution, but not good to take a stupid risk. He’s had a training session apart, but I think that will be good for him.”
