‘The perfect start’- Jermain Defoe hails one Spurs star for his display this weekend

0 11

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur forward and club legend Jermain Defoe has lavished praise on Dejan Kulusevski following his display in the 4-1 victory over Southampton.

Kulusevski earned himself a goal and an assist in the Premier League fixture as he increased his tally to six goals and nine assists since joining Tottenham (Transfermarkt). That is a great return considering he needed just 21 games to reach it.

The Swedish international set up the equaliser on Saturday with a brilliant cross to Ryan Sessegnon at the far post after James Ward-Prowse had initially made it 1-0 to the Saints.

Kulusevski also rounded off the scoreline as he netted the fourth for Spurs by cutting inside and netting past Gavin Bazunu in a crowded area.

Defoe was left impressed by Kulusevski and his direct style of play, with the former striker pointing out how sharp the Swede looked against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.

Defoe said (Matchday Live on Optus Sport): “Really sharp today, I thought his overall performance was brilliant. (He was) really direct, a goal and an assist, it is the perfect start. He took the goal really well. His whole performance today was brilliant.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Kulusevski has undoubtedly been a great signing for us since Fabio Paratici prised him away from Juventus back in January. The Swede has had a considerable impact on the team since switching to North London and he is finally on track to achieving the potential he showed at Parma.

Kulusevski has also formed a great partnership with Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane in the frontline in such a short period of time. The former Juve man gives us more incisiveness during the attacking phase.
