Report: Spurs in talks over potential permanent sale of 21-year-old

0 5

The Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has revealed that Sunderland are in talks with Tottenham over re-signing Jack Clarke, who spent the second half of last season on loan at the Stadium of Light.

Clarke has failed to live up to expectations since his £10m move to Spurs (The Sun) from Leeds in 2019 but the youngster has shown glimpses of his quality during his last two loan spells at Stoke City and Sunderland.

The winger played a valued part in helping the Black Cats win promotion back to the Championship last season.

The Northern Echo reported last month that Sunderland boss Alex Neil is hoping to bring the Spurs man back to the North East for the 2022/23 campaign.

The report added that Antonio Conte’s men are reluctant to agree on any deal at this stage and would prefer to wait until later in the summer to make a decision over the 21-year-old’s future.

Hope has now taken to social media to reveal that Sunderland have opened talks with Spurs over a deal for Clarke.

The journalist claimed that the Championship club want are looking to snap up the winger on a permanent deal.

Given that Clarke has only 12 months left to run on his contract (Transfermarkt), unless the winger signs an extension, it would not be possible for Tottenham to loan him out again. So, it looks like Spurs might have to cut their losses on the 21-year-old by selling him permanently this summer.
