Report: English club expecting two Spurs-linked players to be sold this summer

0 1

Burnley are expecting both Dwight McNeil and Maxwel Cornet to leave the club amid reported transfer interest from Tottenham, according to the Express.

The Clarets are anticipating the pair to depart Turf Moor this summer as part of a clear-out of the squad’s highest earners following their relegation from the Premier League.

The report adds there has not been any recent interest in both players but they are still likely to move on and play no part under new manager Vincent Kompany.

It was reported in mid-June that Tottenham previously enquired about McNeil, although were said to face competition from a host of other clubs across the English top-flight (90min).

Meanwhile, Cornet appeared on Spurs’ radar last month with the Mirror reporting Antonio Conte is an admirer of the Ivory Coast international, whose contract currently possesses a £15 million relegation release clause.

Burnley have already offloaded England international goalkeeper Nick Pope to Newcastle in a deal worth £11 million (The Athletic) as they prepare for life in the second tier after a six-year stint at the top.

Spurs Web Opinion

Someone like McNeil could be a decent acquisition given he is young and able to fulfil the homegrown quota down the line, but the question is whether he is good enough.

The same question on quality can be said of Cornet too, who did manage to show some decent glimpses in a poor Burnley team.
