‘Crossroads in his career’ – Alasdair Gold gives verdict on Ndombele’s future

0 5

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has given his verdict on the future of midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

Still holding the record for Spurs’ most expensive incoming transfer (TransferMarkt), Ndombele made just nine appearances for the Lilywhites in this season’s Premier League, before being loaned out to previous club Olympique Lyon on the January transfer window deadline day (Sky Sports).

Despite being supremely talented with the ball, the 25-year-old has never nailed down his position as a crucial cog in the Spurs system, despite playing for four different permanent managers during his time in North London (Football.London).

His loan return to Lyon has also been a period to forget for the Frenchman. Hampered by injury, Ndombele has only appeared 11 times for Peter Bosz’ men (TransferMarkt) as they slumped to a disappointing eighth-placed finish in Ligue 1 this term (Football.London).

Gold now believes that Ndombele’s Spurs future hangs by a thread (Football.London): “Ndombele’s Tottenham career appears to be heading towards its conclusion but only if someone can come up with the funds to take the club’s record signing away permanently and Tottenham lower their valuation of the player.

“Otherwise, another loan deal could be on the cards for one of Europe’s most naturally talented players.

“Ndombele is a man who has always believed in his own ability but is yet to show that he’s got everything else in his locker that the best players are remembered for.

“At 25, he has reached a summer that could define the rest of his career and he needs to make sure he does not end up as one of football’s wasted great talents.”

With his place in the Spurs squad looking likely to have vanished (Football.London), Fabio Paratici will likely be doing his best to engineer a departure for Ndombele this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

One of my favourite players to watch when he is on song, it will be frustrating to let Ndombele go as this will signal the finality of his failure to succeed at Spurs.

But Spurs need to act like a big club and move these players out when it is clear that they do not have a future in N17.
