Pundit reveals whether he thinks Spurs’ Carter-Vickers should join Celtic or Newcastle

0 3

On an episode of the Record Celtic Podcast, Chris Sutton has given his verdict on who Spurs defender Cameron Carter-Vickers should permanently sign for this summer.

Sutton, who scored 52 times in 113 appearances for the Glasgow club (TransferMarkt), was adamant that Celtic was the perfect long-term destination for the American international.

After Celtic regained their Scottish Premiership title from Glasgow rivals Rangers in May (Sky Sports), Sutton believes the lure of Champions League football at Celtic Park should be all the motivation needed for Carter-Vickers to make his loan move permanent.

However, Celtic may not have a free run at securing Carter-Vickers’ signature as, according to US outlet SBI Soccer, Newcastle United are also interested in the centre-backs’ services.

He said: “Champions League football is there – what an incentive. If I’m Carter-Vickers and I get the opportunity to go to Newcastle for example. Why would I want to go to Newcastle? Other than for the money.

“Newcastle have been brilliant – absolutely outstanding. But there is the opportunity to play Champions League football. That’s where you want to be. They don’t have the qualifiers, that’s a massive incentive.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If this transfer does go ahead as expected, it will be odd to see Carter-Vickers missing from Spurs’ pre-season tour squad which he seems to respawn for each season.

Whether he decides to stay in Scotland after a successful season with Celtic, or try and break into the Premier League with the Magpies, CCV is a solid centre-back and could be a great option for a number of clubs.
