Ralf Rangnick provides update on three Man Utd stars ahead of Crystal Palace game

0 0

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick has provided team news ahead of the final Premier League game of the season at Crystal Palace.

The Red Devils have had a disappointing league campaign, and it has already been confirmed that they won’t be playing Champions League football next term.

Despite this, the club still have something to play for. With just two points separating them from seventh-placed West Ham, they may need to win at Palace to qualify for the Europa League.

Otherwise, West Ham, who already have a superior goal difference, could leapfrog them with an away win over Brighton. This would mean Europa Conference League football for United.

That’s the last thing the club require at the moment. Rangnick will be keen to avoid the prospect, but it won’t be an easy challenge against Palace, who have proved tough to beat at home.

Ahead of the game, Rangnick has provided some team news. The German did not specify, who are all absent, but instead provided an update on Luke Shaw, Jadon Sancho and Phil Jones.

Shaw recently recovered from a leg surgery, and Rangnick has said that there is an outside chance that he could be on the bench on Sunday, though he may not be training tomorrow.

He said: “There are a few players definitely missing. Please understand that I don’t want to name all those names right now.”

“Luke Shaw’s wife gave birth to their second baby today and he was supposed to be training tomorrow. But apparently he isn’t. So we have to wait and see if he would at least be available for the bench on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Rangnick revealed that Sancho and Jones had to leave training sessions early this week, and will be assessed in the lead-up to the crunch game at Selhurst Park.

He added: “In two days’ training, we had at least one or two players leaving the training session a little earlier because they couldn’t finish the session because they had problems. That was Jadon and Phil Jones, so we need to wait until after the session tomorrow.”

United have their work cut out to sign elite players this summer without Champions League football. However, dropping down to the Europa Conference League could have a more damaging effect.

Hence, Sunday’s game is a potential must-win for them. The players seemed void of confidence in the 4-0 rout by Brighton. One can only hope that the two-week extended break will see a better response.
