LEEDS are investigating after Newcastle fans reported a ‘crush’ getting into Elland Road on Saturday.

The Football Supporters’ Federation said they were ‘alarmed’ after visiting Magpies stated that turnstile failures created a ‘dangerous situation’ before the Toon’s 1-0 win.

Newcastle’s supporters’ trust called on the Yorkshire club to take urgent action.

Chair Greg Tomlinson said: “The Trust has raised significant concerns to Leeds United in relation to the issues that could have resulted in serious injury or worse and were not the fault of any match-going Newcastle fans.

“I welcome the quick response from Leeds and their commitment to undertaking a review.

“No football supporter should go to a match and be in fear of their own safety.”

West Yorkshire Police said: “We are aware of issues at the Leeds United v Newcastle United game at Elland Road on Saturday that resulted in congestion at the entrance points for away fans.

“We are currently liaising with the club to review the circumstances.”

A Leeds statement read: “Leeds United will now work with the Newcastle Supporters Trust, West Yorkshire Police and our own safety team to review the issues raised and ensure we continue to provide a safe environment for everyone attending our stadium.”

In the game itself, Newcastle came out on top as they picked up their first away Premier League win of the season.

Jonjo Shelvey’s second half free-kick was enough to hand Eddie Howe’s side a 1-0 win in front of the Leeds fans.

Next up for Marcelo Bielsa’s men is a trip to Aston Villa, while Newcastle host Everton.
