Tuchel sets record straight on Tottenham clash as boss makes honest Chelsea pledge

0 3

Manager Thomas Tuchel does not feel his Chelsea side will have an advantage over Tottenham on Sunday due to their recent Carabao Cup triumph.

The Blues are set to face Spurs for the third time this month as they continue the tough task of chasing down league-leading Manchester City. Much more realistic is the opportunity to lift the EFL Cup, with Liverpool waiting at Wembley on February 27. The Stamford Bridge outfit took care of Antonio Conte’s side 3-0 on aggregate in their last-four encounter.

It was a comfortable success for the west Londoners and one that prompted Conte to outline the gulf in class between the sides. But Tuchel is refusing to read too much into the situation and believes it works both ways.

“We have played three matches in such a short time which is pretty unusual and uncommon normally, that is why they know what we do and we know more or less what they do,” he said. Per The Independent. “But it is another game for us to show up.”

It has been an up-and-down season for Spurs to date. Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm and results improved.

And Tuchel feels the nature of their last-gasp win over Leicester City means Harry Kane and co will be full of confidence.

“They will come into this game from a late victory over Leicester which gave them a boost and we came from two wins in the Carabao Cup that should give us some confidence,” he added.

“But it is not about having whatever advantages and if we are philosophical about it: we have to deliver and have the right attitude to deliver a top performance.”

No priorities for Tuchel

Chelsea are still in the Champions League and face French outfit Lille in the round of 16. They are also alive in the FA Cup and go up against Plymouth Argyle in round four on February 5.

There is still much to play for despite the Premier League tilt seemingly being over. But the German tactician made it clear that there is no pecking order when it comes to games.

“If you play, if you work for Chelsea, you give your very best on a daily basis and that guarantees that you come in the right shape, right attitude, right mentality to games,” he continued.

“The moment when you start judging, start prioritising is the moment you lose track from what brings us to be part of Chelsea.

“Being part of Chelsea is being competitive in every single day, come with the right mindset, come with the right attitude.”
