Opinion: Tottenham player ratings from the incredible 3-2 win over Leicester

0 0

Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to beat Leicester City in dramatic fashion this evening, with Steven Bergwijn scoring two in as many minutes off the bench.

Let’s take a look at how the individual players got on:

Hugo Lloris – 6.5 – Perhaps he could have done a little better with Leicester’s opener but that may also be a little harsh. Came up with a couple of great saves at key moments.

Emerson Royal – 6 – The game really passed Emerson by today. Wide runs from Skipp, Moura, and even Tanganga at times left him to a bit-part role.

Japhet Tanganga – 7 – Overlapped really nicely on the right today and offered himself in attack. A couple of poor moments on the ball with his passing but a step in the right direction.

Davinson Sanchez – 6 – Nice and strong in the tackle tonight in that central role. But still has those dodgy moments. One led to Leicester’s goal and another let Barnes into the box.

Ben Davies – 7 – Solid as ever on the left side. Not only did he defend well but he uses the ball really nicely. Rarely gave it away and picked some really positive passes. One poor moment in Leicester’s second goal.

Sergio Reguilon – 7.5 – Full of energy and showed some real cutting edge this evening. More direct running and taking people on than usual. More of that please, Reggy. Just the end product that still needs work.

Harry Winks – 8 – Such an underrated performance. Seems to thrive in the lone pivot role. He tackled and turned the ball over all night, while also using it positively at his feet. Lovely assist for Kane’s goal with a long-range pass too.

Oliver Skipp – 8 – A very different role for Skipp tonight as a more advanced midfielder. What he lacks in final third cutting edge he makes up for in running and pressing.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – 8 – Just like Skipp, Hojbjerg pushed forward and pressed down the left all night long. Just a couple of frustratingly wasted moments in the final third. Great pass to find Doherty in Tottenham’s second goal and a fantastic block late on.

Lucas Moura – 7 – Always looks ready to burst into life. Up front is not his best position but he did a job. Looked dangerous but I wanted more Son-like runs in behind, especially when Kane dropped deep and turned on the ball.

Harry Kane – 9 – On another night, he would be walking away with a hat-trick. One cleared off the line, one smashed against the crossbar, one blazed over. Played really well this evening and the form is coming back. Incredible assist for Bergwin too.

Substitutes:

Matt Doherty – 7.5 – Came on at half-time and added so much to the Spurs attack with his overlapping runs and late bursts into the box.

Giovani Lo Celso – 6 – Came on late in the second half but didn’t add too much.

Steven Bergwijn – 10 – Need I even type anything? Stevie Wonder!
