‘Conte wants one’ – Fabrizio Romano reveals why Spurs are yet to make first January signing
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham need to sell players before pushing ahead with a move for a centre-back this month.
With only two weeks left in the January transfer window, Spurs do not appear to be close to making any signings at the moment.
It seemed until last week that the club were close to pulling off a deal for Adama Traore but some sources now suggest that even that deal appears unlikely to go through.
Romano has now told Chris Cowlin that the North Londoners are waiting to move on some of their players before pushing ahead with new singings.
The journalist revealed that the club wish to cash in on Tanguy Ndombele and Steven Bergwijn and are also looking to move Dele Alli on.
Romano added that Spurs will pursue a central defender once they shift players out, with Conte wanting to reinforce his backline as soon as possible.
@FabrizioRomano on Spurs:
"They need to sell and want Ndombele to leave. Same for Bergwijn; Ajax interested. Keep an eye on Dele; looking for solutions, swap deal could be solution. They need to sell; will then jump for a centre-back, Conte wants one as soon as possible!"#COYS pic.twitter.com/q90RqBL9Bs

Spurs Web Opinion
It is interesting that Romano believes that a central defender is Conte’s number one priority.
Both Matt Law and Alasdair Gold have suggested that a right-wing-back, a forward and a midfielder are more pressing needs, with Conte prepared to wait till the summer for a new centre-back.
That makes sense to me, particularly since Rodon and Tanganga do not look close to departing while Romero is now back in full training.
