‘It can be boring’ – Berbatov makes claim about Spurs attackers working under Conte

0 2

Dimitar Berbatov has revealed he is not convinced that Harry Kane will commit his future to Tottenham Hotspur.

Kane made a slow start to the season following his failed move to Manchester City in the summer but the striker’s form has improved considerably since Antonio Conte took over at Tottenham.

The 28-year-old has now started finding the back of the net in the Premier League, having scored in three of Spurs’ last four league games.

Reports have indicated that the England captain is loving life under Conte and there have been suggestions that the striker could be offered a new contract over the coming months.

However, Berbatov believes the speculation regarding Kane’s future could remerge in the summer as the striker could still hold out hopes of moving to a top club.

The former Spurs striker told The Mirror: “In my opinion, I think we are going to see a similar situation with Harry Kane to last year.

“I am not convinced that the thought of moving to a top club to win trophies is completely out of Harry’s head.

“Yes, Conte has said that Harry is a key guy and that the team must evolve around him. But at the same time, I think that temptation is still there – and that we will see the same drama next summer.

“The only way that won’t happen is if Spurs win something or qualify for the Champions League. That’s where Kane wants to be – so let’s see if Spurs can surprise a few people by doing it.”

Berbatov also went on to add that Conte’s attention to detail could prove quite draining for Tottenham’s attacking players but insisted the Italian is the sort of manager the North Londoners need.

The Bulgarian added: “Conte has an Italian mindset. I played under Claudio Ranieri in Monaco, so I know how Italian coaches work.

“For the players, it can be boring at times because they are very tactical thinkers who are very disciplined on the training pitch.

“For attacking players like me, who want to improvise and express themselves, it can be as boring as hell. Trust me. But Spurs need that because Conte’s methods can bring consistency.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I agree with Berbatov that Spurs need to qualify for the Champions League if they are to convince Kane to stick around. I cannot see the 28-year-old signing a new contract unless the club have a strong finish to the season and show signs of progression.
