Journalist reveals UEFA ‘closely monitoring’ COVID outbreak at Spurs ahead of Rennes clash

0 3

The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick has revealed that UEFA are closely monitoring the situation at Tottenham following a COVID-19 outbreak at the club.

Up to seven first-team players and four members of the coaching staff at Spurs reportedly tested positive for COVID earlier in the week.

It emerged on Wednesday morning that the club were waiting for the results of PCR tests which were administered on Tuesday before deciding whether to request the Premier League to postpone their clash against Brighton on Sunday.

It has since been revealed that Spurs have only 10 senior outfield players available for the clash against Rennes on Thursday, which the Lilywhites have to win to guarantee themselves a place in the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League.

Antonio Conte admitted in his press conference this afternoon that the situation is ‘serious’ with more players and staff testing positive every day.

However, according to Kilpatrick, as things stand UEFA expect Spurs to field a team against Rennes tomorrow.

I hope UEFA eventually come to their senses and postpone the clash as for the game to go ahead under the current circumstances would be extremely risky. Based on what Conte said in his press conference, we could well have more positive tests emerging over the next few days.
