Report: Spurs-linked star has now reached ‘formal agreement’ with another club

0 4

The Independent have revealed that while rumoured Tottenham target Antonio Rudiger is moving closer to a Chelsea exit, the central defender would prefer to move abroad rather than to a Premier League club.

After being overlooked for large parts of Frank Lampard’s reign at Stamford Bridge, Rudiger has been one of the Blues’ most important players since Thomas Tuchel arrived at Chelsea.

However, the centre-back’s future with the Blues is in doubt, with his current deal running out at the end of the season.

Gianluca Di Marzio stated at the start of last month that Tottenham were one of four clubs in talks with the German international over a summer move.

This information was backed up by Dean Jones, who said on The Done Deal Show (starting at 36:02) two weeks ago that one of the biggest offers on the table for the former Roma man is from Spurs.

The Independent have now revealed that Rudiger seems set to leave Chelsea on a free transfer in the summer, with the defender already having turned down the West London club’s contract offers.

It is said that the centre-back’s agent has met with representatives from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich over recent weeks, with the player thought to have an ‘informal agreement’ in place with Los Blancos.

The report claims that despite interest from both Spurs and Manchester United, Rudiger would prefer to move abroad should he leave Chelsea.

This news does not come as a surprise to me as I never thought we had a chance of landing Rudiger, to begin with.

If his representatives entertained Tottenham’s offers, it was likely only to strengthen their bargaining position with other clubs.

I see no reason for the 28-year-old to move across London and risk incurring the wrath of Chelsea fans, particularly when he has so many offers to choose from.
