Report reveals when Spurs will decide whether to ask PL to postpone Brighton match
The Evening Standard have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are waiting on the results of the PCR tests administered on Tuesday before deciding whether to ask the Premier League to postpone their match against Brighton on Sunday.
Following an outbreak of COVID-19 at Hotspur Way, the club’s preparation for their upcoming clashes against Rennes and Brighton have been thrown into chaos.
It was reported on Tuesday that seven first-team members had tested positive and that the North London club could request the Premier League to postpone their clash at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.
UEFA have stated that they expect Spurs’ Europa Conference League clash against Rennes on Thursday to go ahead.
The Evening Standard have now provided an update on the outbreak of the virus at the North London club.
The report explains that the seven players and four members of staff, who tested positive on lateral flow tests, are currently self-isolating at home and are awaiting the results of the PCR test they took on Tuesday.
It is revealed that Conte’s ‘most influential players’ are among those who tested positive and that a positive PCR test would see the players and staff in question having to quarantine for ten days.
However, Spurs are said to be in no rush to make a decision over appealing their clash against the Seagulls and could wait until after tomorrow’s game against Rennes to do so.
The report adds that a request for postponement will be considered by the Premier League, who would assess factors such as the number of players unavailable, their positions, and the impact on the club’s preparations, before making a decision.

The postponement of the Brighton game could lead to a fixture pile-up for Antonio Conte’s men further down the line after their clash against Burnley was also postponed last week. Let’s us hope that most if not all of them return negative PCR tests.
