Report: Ex-Spurs boss Mourinho emerges as potential target for PL side

0 5

Jose Mourinho has emerged as a potential managerial target for Everton should they decide to relieve Rafa Benitez of his duties, according to the Mirror.

The Spaniard has seen his job security threatened at Goodison Park, with the Toffees’ form in the Premier League taking a huge dip since September.

Pressure on Benitez increased after he oversaw Everton’s miserable 4-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby last Wednesday, but eased tensions on Monday night after his side beat Arsenal 2-1 in a pulsating encounter.

However, Benitez is not out of the woods yet with the Mirror claiming Roma boss Mourinho could be in line to replace him if uncertainty around his position remains.

The report claims the former Tottenham boss could be open to yet another return to the Premier League, but only if the correct opportunity crops up for him.

Mourinho joined Roma in the summer, but there is already an element of tension beginning to simmer with I Giallorossi. The 58-year-old has cut a frustrated figure in Italy of late.

We all know that Mourinho doesn’t stay long at clubs nowadays, but this would be a crazy move given he has only been at Roma for a few months.

There is also an element of doubt as to whether Everton can financially support such a move as well, so they may ultimately keep a hold of Benitez for now.
