Solskjaer severance behind Man Utd wait for Conte?

0 9

It’s reported one of the reasons Manchester United are hesitating before hiring Antonio Conte is they’d have to pay Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a £7.5m severance package.

Multiple reports in Italy and England suggest Conte has given the all-clear to taking over at Old Trafford, even though he usually rejects mid-season roles in favour of a project he can work on from the summer.

However, Manchester United have seemingly agreed to give Solskjaer another three games to decide his future, with crunch fixtures against Tottenham Hotspur, Atalanta and Manchester City coming up.

If the situation has not improved by the break for international duty, then Solskjaer will be dismissed and Conte the favourite to be brought in.

According to SunSport, there is an ulterior reason why the manager is being given more time to turn it around after the humiliating 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool.

That is because the terms of his contract would require a full year’s salary as a severance package, which would amount to circa £7.5m (€8.9m).

Sportitalia have reported that Conte would command a salary of circa €12m if he were to accept the Manchester United job.
