Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney too unwell to manage Derby and forced to watch Championship clash at Coventry from home

DERBY boss Wayne Rooney was NOT at his side’s Championship clash against league high flyers Coventry on Saturday.

The England and Manchester United legend was too ill to attend the game, and instead watched his team from home.

Assistant manager Liam Rosenior took charge of the game in Rooney‘s absence.

But the 35-year-old undoubtedly remained in contact with his staff throughout the afternoon.

The Rams drew the fixture 1-1 with Coventry striker Matt Godden’s first half spot-kick being cancelled out by Graeme Shinnie late on in the second.

The draw keeps Derby at the bottom of the second tier as they look to recover from the 12-point deduction last month for entering administration.

Derby are not too far off their relegation rivals, though.

Barnsley and Hull are three and four points ahead respectively, and 21st place Cardiff – who just sacked Mick McCarthy after an eighth straight defeat – are 11.

As for Coventry, they maintain their place inside the play-off places.

Mark Robins’ side recorded a 16th placed finish last term and look comfortably set to beat that this year.

The Sky Blues have a number of favourable fixtures coming up, including a trip to relegation strugglers Hull.
