Harry Kane warned over destination he must avoid if leaving Tottenham

0 12

Harry Kane has been warned to reject any advances that Newcastle United make for his signature after their big-money takeover.

A new era is beginning at St James’ Park after a Saudi-backed consortium took charge of the club. Their financial power means Newcastle can now afford players of the highest calibre. It will be a long-term process, though, as they may struggle to attract star names in their current state on the pitch.

Newcastle lost to Tottenham on Sunday, meaning Steve Bruce’s side remain winless from their opening eight Premier League games. As a result, they are in the relegation zone.

A strong January in the transfer market would help turn their fortunes around. But it remains to be seen what kind of player would be up for joining them at this exact moment in time.

Rumours continue to circle about big names they could target. Even England captain Harry Kane, who on Sunday lined up against them for Spurs, has been tipped to be the subject of their interest.

Kane was considering leaving Tottenham in the summer due to their lack of ambition. Manchester City tried to sign him, but could not meet the asking price.

The striker consequently committed his future to Spurs, where he remains under contract until 2024. But he never clarified how long he would be staying at the club.

Hence, there has been talk of a January move – and some have wondered if Newcastle could tempt him now they are aiming to head in an upwards direction.

But one man who thinks Kane would be making a mistake in such a move is former Arsenal player Paul Merson.

The pundit warned that Newcastle will not be able to compete at the top level for a good few years yet, by which time Kane may be approaching retirement.

Merson told the Daily Star: “Who’s going to go there anyway? They need players for a relegation battle.

“You’ve got to buy a hero. The first thing you have to do is buy a big-name centre-forward.

“But that’s the end for someone like Callum Wilson then – and he’s one of the two best players at the club!

“Harry Kane’s not going to Newcastle”

“They’re just not buying the big, big stars. Harry Kane’s not going to Newcastle. Surely.

“He’s 28. His career will be over before they win anything.”

After Merson’s words, coincidentally, Kane went on to score his first league goal of the season against none other than Newcastle.

It would seem sensible for Kane to stay where he is for now, unless an already established top-level club come back in for him.

However, as long as his wait for a trophy goes on, speculation will continue about a future away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He has, though, spent his entire professional career as a Tottenham player, only leaving for some loan spells in his formative years. To date, Kane has scored 228 goals from 347 games in a Spurs shirt – and he will have many more to add as long as he stays there.
