Gary Lineker makes joke about Newcastle’s takeover following Spurs win

0 3

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker has joked that Newcastle United’s new owners should have bought the North Londoners after he watched his old side take all three points at St James’ Park.

There was plenty of optimism on Tyneside ahead of the match with the stadium having been sold out for the visit of Tottenham after Newcastle were the subject of a takeover from a Saudi-backed consortium.

The takeover from Mike Ashley has made the Magpies the wealthiest club in world football with the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund worth a remarkable £320billion, which is considerably more than the £23.2billion which is in the pockets of Manchester City’s owner Sheikh Mansour (The Sun).

Newcastle started the game in the best possible way with a goal in the first two minutes of the match to further energise the fans, but were soon silenced when three goals in the first half from Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Heung-min Son silenced the Toon Army.

Lineker took to Twitter to provide a tongue-in-cheek verdict of the victory for his old employer.

Lineker is known for his dry-witted Tweets and there’s no doubt that Newcastle will be potentially a different animal the next time the two clubs square off when their new owners have the opportunity to spend big during the January transfer window.
