‘His career will be over’ – Merson rubbishes speculation over Spurs star’s future

0 6

Paul Merson has rubbished reports suggesting that Harry Kane could be a target for Newcastle, insisting that the Tottenham man’s career would be over if he joins the Magpies.

Kane has endured a sluggish start to the season following his failed move to Manchester City in the summer.

Eurosport claimed last month that City are unlikely to reignite their interest in the 28-year-old in the future, with the striker potentially open to signing a new deal with Spurs.

Following Newcastle’s £305million Saudi-led takeover, St James’ Park has been mooted as a potential destination for the England captain.

Some pundits have opined that Daniel Levy could be tempted into selling Kane to Newcastle should they put in a £150m offer for the striker in the coming months.

However, Merson questioned why the Tottenham man will move to the North East, pointing out that it will take a few years for Newcastle to start competing for silverware.

The former Arsenal midfielder told The Daily Star: “They’re just not buying the big, big stars.

“Harry Kane’s not going to Newcastle. Surely. He’s 28. His career will be over before they win anything.”

Merson is right in saying that Newcastle have to build steadily and it will likely take them at least two to three years before they can attract big stars to the club.

If City do not reignite their interest in Kane, then the only club in England I can see him moving to are Manchester United.
