Gotti ‘not satisfied’ with Udinese performance

0 1

Luca Gotti was ‘not satisfied’ with Udinese’s performance after a 1-0 defeat to Roma, but saw things they can build on going forward this season.

The Friulani rode their luck in the first half to only go in 1-0 down, saved twice by the woodwork, then Tammy Abraham turning in Riccardo Calafiori’s pull-back with a flick.

However, they also had numerous chances to equalise after the break that should’ve been taken better.

Serie A | Roma 1-0 Udinese: Abraham just enough

When Gotti spoke to DAZN after the match, he did not appreciate being asked if Udinese had waited too long to really get going.

“I understand you can read the game that way, but you also have to take into account how Roma approached it,” said the coach.

“They defended deep and remained solid. It’s not true that we didn’t try to score goals, we had to read the various moments of the match.

“I am not satisfied, but I can see some quality in the squad, things we must build on. At times we were able to break free of their press, at times we weren’t. Confidence can make a difference, so can the reading the timing of their passing, but sometimes we can’t read even the simplest situations. That’s all part of the maturation process.”

Udinese finished the game with two teenagers on the wings and Gotti was impressed with summer signing Brandon Soppy.

“Udinese invested for the future and we want to make the process go as quickly as possible so the present is also the future.

“Soppy has immense potential, he is courageous and instinctive and has to mature in some aspects, above all the defending and timing of his movement.”
