Paper Talk: Man Utd add Juventus star to three-man centre-back shortlist

0 2

Manchester United have added a Juventus star to a three-man centre-back short-list, while Thursday’s transfer gossip also claims that Tottenham face a major rival to sign Jerome Boateng.

ATALANTA LOAN STAR WANTED BY MAN UTD

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Atalanta centre-half Cristian Romero, with the Argentine on their three-man shortlist this summer.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a successful season on loan at Atalanta from Juventus, with the former set to take up their option to sign him permanently for €25m at the end of current campaign.

However, Metro claims that Atalanta could consider a quick sale for a fee in the region of €40m, with Sky Sports stating that there is firm interest from the Red Devils.

Sevilla defender Jules Kounde and Lille’s Sven Botman are the two other names on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s list of potential defensive signings.

With Edinson Cavani committing himself to another season at Old Trafford, United are set to make the addition of a new partner for Harry Maguire their top priority.

Indeed, former United defender Rio Ferdinand believes strengthening at centre-back is critical for his old side.

Speaking after the 2-1 loss to Leicester on Tuesday night, he told BT Sport:  “I think Manchester United’s prime position for them to strengthen, to really improve and become a team who can compete is centre-back.

“To get a partner for Harry Maguire who you go, actually every week he produces, he’s there.

“At the moment there’s too many players centre-forwards especially who probably are looking when they get in the tunnel and are thinking,

“I’ve got a chance here. I think I can smell a chance.”
