Glenn Hoddle suggests former Liverpool man should be in running for Spurs job

0 2

Glenn Hoddle has claimed that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard should be a possible candidate to be the new Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Gerrard led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title this season, ending the dominant spell that fierce rivals Celtic had enjoyed whilst also guiding the Ibrox outfit to the round of 16 stage in the Europa League where they were eliminated by Slavia Prague.

Hoddle suggested that Gerrard may not be prepared to wait until Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool takes a downward spiral for the former midfielder to return to Anfield and take over from the German.

Tottenham are in the market for a new manager having parted company with Jose Mourinho last month following a disappointing campaign which has saw the North Londoners eliminated from the Europa League and lose touch with the top four race having been top of the Premier League table in late November.

During his punditry appearance as part of BT Sport‘s coverage of Tottenham’s game at Leeds United on Saturday (11:53am, May 8, 2021), Hoddle said: “Steven Gerrard, I will put his name. I don’t know if Steven can wait for Klopp to start hitting the ropes in a few years’ time to go to Liverpool, it doesn’t work like that sometimes.”

Tottenham have been linked with a whole host of managers over the past few weeks.  What Gerrard has done at Rangers has been impressive but the Premier League is a completely different challenge.  Given his strong links with Liverpool and relative inexperience, I would rather see Daniel Levy look to go with a more established name.
