Report: Spurs ‘make contact’ with 63-year-old over replacing Mourinho

0 4

According to Duncan Castles on the Transfer Window Podcast, Tottenham Hotspur have established contact with Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini over taking over at the club.

A number of names have been linked with the vacant Spurs job over the two and half weeks since Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

Brendan Rodgers now appears to be the North London club’s number one target but the Northern Irishman would have to have a change of heart after ruling himself out of contention for the job last week.

Experienced campaigners like Massimiliano Allegri, Rafa Benitez and Ralf Rangnick, as well as young coaches like Graham Potter and Scott Parker have all been mooted as potential targets for Spurs (Daily Mail).

Castles has now thrown another name into the hat, suggesting that Gasperini is on Tottenham’s list of targets.

In fact, the journalist claimed that the North London club have already made contact with a 63-year-old Italian, who has responded positively to the club’s approach.

Gasperini has worked wonders since arriving at Atalanta back in 2016 and the Bergamo club have won plenty of plaudits for their daring and aggressive style of play which currently find them in second place in Serie A.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gasperini seems like a decent shout as he ticks several boxes that Spurs are looking for. Levy reportedly wants a manager who has a progressive approach but the Spurs chairman is also rumoured to prefer someone more experienced than the likes of Parker and Potter. Additionally, Gasperini is also used to working on a tight budget and is unlikely to demand big money transfers.
